Felicia Carty
Writer
Felicia was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta where she entered foster care at the age of six and aged out at 18. After moving to Ontario, she attended the University of Toronto for Journalism and became a freelance writer and worked in Communications in the non-profit sector. Felicia has since turned her attention to long-form writing, studying at Humber College’s School of Creative Writing. Her journey through foster care is part of the focus of her current work in memoir, where she writes about her parents’ struggle with mental illness, her blended diasporic roots, and how finding art helped her cope with the difficulties of her childhood. Felicia hopes that by bringing stories of foster children to life, we can dispel stereotypes and make real the lived experience of children in care, creating stronger and more meaningful connections between the foster care system and the public.
