Ally Pett
Foster Care Student
Ally is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Acadia University, currently completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. She was adopted out of foster care in British Columbia along with her sister when they were toddlers. Ally has been focusing her academic studies on issues in the foster care system, particularly aging out of foster care. She has also focused on homelessness in rural communities. As an eight year old, Ally was a founding member of a youth led organization called Operation Peace, that promoted education around children’s needs of safety and security. She fundraised and advocated for children living in a Bolivian orphanage continuing with projects into her teenage years. Ally has also been involved with education around fetal alcohol effects and neonatal abstinence syndrome. During her high school years, she coached volleyball and basketball and worked with the Boys and Girls club of Nova Scotia as a youth counsellor. Ally’s academic and lived experiences have pushed her towards advocating for youth involved in the care system to help them succeed.
